A mother is a mother, regardless of what species we’re talking about. Human and animal mothers both have certain instincts that I don’t think can be found within anyone else. They just know when they’re children are having a bad day, the times the kids didn’t eat their lunch, and even when there’s danger lurking around their loved ones. The following story is that of a mother turkey and how she protects her little chicks from danger. It’s heartwarming and will touch your heart.
The clip shows a turkey followed by a line of her little chicks. Tara, the woman who recorded the video, explains that these animals have been living in her area for a while and that they are a common sight for her. But, she didn’t know that she was going to witness a very uncommon spectacle very soon.
Tara casually decided to record her interaction with these birds when she noticed that the momma turkey is sensing the potential danger of being out on the road. She starts to strut a little more while looking around anticipating something. Her body language shifts. Her demeanor is different. What is going on? You can see her craning her neck up, all of sudden, when her protective instincts kick in. She immediately starts to make a sound that is a cue to her chicks to clear the road.
You would think that because the chicks are young, they wouldn’t take the prompts too well. I would think the same, but wrong! The chicks clear the path pronto, in a single file that has them hidden and covered in seconds. They are so well camouflaged and out of the way of for potential danger to strike them. They are safe on the road while mom and pop suss out the surrounding area and situation.
Their response is impressive is really fast and on point. They hustled to hide. It’s so cute and worth a watch!
