Science is a wonder! For anyone that doesn’t take much interest in the subject, it’s easy to disregard a lot of the things that happen around us, mainly because we’re not aware of all the science is that’s behind it. Now, I haven’t been much a science person, but when I come across something cool and interesting, it’s worth sharing. And let’s face it. Science actually can be really cool.
The video shared below doesn’t consist of rocket science, nor do you need to analyze the situation for more than what you’re watching—it’s just cool footage that I think everyone will enjoy.
Everyone knows that water turns into ice when the temperatures outside are below freezing level, and it’s clear to see when we step out on a cold day. All the water that we do see though is usually on the ground and frozen. It’s when this man decided to flip the script a bit, we actually get to see just how frozen water can become on an exceptionally cold day.
A man decided to take advantage of the cold weather outside an run an experiment to see what would happen if he squirted water out of a water gun into dangerously cold temperatures. Would it make it to the ground? Or, would the water freeze in mid-air? You would expect that the water would at least make it to the ground before going solid. Have you ever dropped a glass of water? The liquid falls to the floor pretty instantly! Or at least it does in my clumsy experience. I would surmise that the water from the water gun, in this case, would do the same as the spilled midnight glass of water I knocked over yesterday, but oh no siree. A super cool thing happens instead!
He took boiling water and loaded up the water gun. As soon as the liquid entered the cool atmosphere, it instantly froze. As in less than a milisecond. Perhaps a quarter of one! All of a sudden, it seems as if he’s squirting snow out of the gun! As I said, it’s not rocket science, but it’s still interesting to watch!
