I love hearing one of my favorite songs redone entirely different. To listen to a brand new spin (done to perfection) on an old favorite revamps the sound and breathes new life into it. You hear the same song differently and fall in love with it all over again!
With a heart-wrenching song like Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” there are some big shoes to fill. Not only does it paint a picture of a girl’s lonely life and her hope to make something of it, but it’s also just a huge song with deep resonating vocals. Anyone who chooses to take this on better know they’ve got some catching up to do!
This is Homegrown, a band of three siblings from Queensland, Australia. The O’Donoghues – Katelyn 21, Liam, 18, and Kasey, 15 — are performing in the blind auditions for “The Voice Australia.” Their performance opens to all three voices harmonizing so seamlessly, the young man’s sound is barely audible. The two female voices are stealing the show, and the judges love it as both Joe and Delta toss each other glances and nod their heads.
But it’s when Liam’s low vocals break up Katelyn and Kasey’s that the judges lose their minds. All four turn, in awe of the female-male voices coming together in harmony. It’s a beautiful sound to have the high and low voices intertwine and wrap around each other. Their musical approach is very evocative and doesn’t take away from the depth of the song. I got goosebumps!
