3 Girls Sing “Hallelujah” In 3 Different Languages

Singing in your native language is easy. You know the words, appropriate intonation, which syllables can be elongated or pronounced — it comes as second nature! You just have to memorize the words. But when you’re singing a song in a different language, in words you’re not too familiar with and have no idea what they mean, pulling it off becomes so much more difficult! Now throw in learning how to pronounce all the words correctly, and it becomes a lot more challenging!

But there’s more. Now, add in the pressure of impressing judges on national television. I’m sweating just thinking about it! That’s a lot of pressure to work under! Some serious grace under fire.

In this video, three young girls really show us what they’ve got, and that’s nerves of steel! On “The Voice Kids Russia,” they came together to flex their incredible vocal skills but also stand as a united team. Rather than simply singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” they took it to a whole new level by singing it in three different languages – Russian, English and Arabic. Of course, if you know the song, you know that it’s a huge accomplishment if a singer can do it full justice in just English, let alone any other language!

While each girl takes on a language, they sing their solos and then come together to sing, closer to the end. Their performance is emotional and stirring, each voice so beautiful and angelic, and pulled off remarkably well. Even their outfits are reminiscent of angels. The soft colors and light flowy material makes these three stand out like figures descended from heaven. From the moment the first young lady starts, the judge is in a state of trance. Her eyes are closed and she is taken away somewhere else other than her judge’s chair. I don’t know if the judges knew what was in store for them with this trio.

Even if you don’t understand the languages, the beauty and meaning are there. This song contains so much weight, and their talent carries it so well. The true meaning of the song conveys love above anything else, and the strength to conquer whatever comes your way. Their powerful performance and the union of different languages from different backgrounds are a reminder that together we stand, and together we stand stronger. They gave a fabulous performance.
